San Jose’s Norman Mineta International Airport (SJC) is a city-owned airport in Santa Clara County, California. It is one of the most convenient airports to reach in the US, located only two miles from Downtown San Jose. Southwest in the dominant carrier at SJC. Alaska Airlines and its affiliate, Horizon Airlines, also have a major presence at the airport. The airport averages 10 to 11 million passengers per year, making it the smallest of the three Bay Area airports (after Oakland and SFO).
The airport opened for commercial business in 1965 and was expanded in 1990. Another long term expansion gave the airport a new terminal (Terminal B). There are 12 gates in Terminal B (all along the North Concourse) and 16 gates in Terminal A. SJC is known for its public art, which is on display throughout the airport, and for its connectivity features (including free wireless internet access). The VTA Route 10 Airport Flyer is a free bus that connects the airport to the center of the city and also to local train and Caltrain stations.
