Norfolk International Airport (ORF) is one of the largest small airports on the East Coast. It serves more than three million passengers each year. Most fliers use Southwest Airlines, Delta and US Airways. US Airways offers connection service to its hubs in Philadelphia and Charlotte while Southwest flies to other major East Coast destinations regularly.
Norfolk is a small airport in terms of size. It has one terminal building, with two concourses. Planes take off and land on two runways. The airport is not connected directly with the city by public transportation. Most people get to ORF by car via Interstate 64. Hampton Roads Transit has a bus stop, but it is more than a mile away from the terminal.
The airport serves major US hub cities like Chicago O’Hare, Washington Dulles, Philadelphia and Charlotte.
The terminal building was opened in the 1940s. The airport has undergone several renovations and expansions, the most recent of which updated baggage handling systems and renovated the terminal lobby. Non-commercial flights use the airport regularly, with cargo, charter and private planes making up more than half the traffic each year.
