Los Angeles Airport, often referred to by its FAA code LAX, is one of the world’s busiest airports, serving around 60 million passengers annually.  It first became an international airport in 1949.  Major renovations and expansion projects have taken place several times, most notably in the 1950s and in 1981.  The airport is located in Westchester, about 15 miles for Downtown LA.  People flying to destinations throughout Southern California, such as Hollywood, Disneyland and Santa Monica use LAX, as do many people connecting to international flights headed to destinations across the Asia/Pacific region.

LAX can be reached by road on Interstates 405 and 105.  Buses from around the metro also stop at the airports ground transport center.  Santa Monica’s Big Bus Bus (line 3), Torrance Transit (line 8) and several lines of the LA Country Metro Transit system make stops at the center.

LAX is extremely busy, with the time from entrance to gate reaching 45 minutes during peak travel times.  Hotels like the Embassy Suites Los Angeles International Airport and Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles are located near the terminals.
