HOU – William P. Hobby Airport
William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) is Houston’s second airport. It is home to several low cost airlines, including Frontier and Airtran, and is a major focus city for Southwest Airlines. In a 2006 survey by J.D Power and Associated, HOU ranked #1 for customer satisfaction. It took the top spot again the following year. The airport has a single terminal.
Hobby was the only airport in Houston until George Bush Intercontinental airport opened in 1969. The airport has a strong sense of history and houses an aviation and airport museum. Howard Hughes was influential part of the airport’s expansion and commercialization in the 1930s.
Hobby is more centrally located that Houston’s larger international airport. It is used by domestic fliers headed to and from the Houston area.
Passengers can reach the airport by public transit on the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County bus.
Hobby is also served by SuperShuttle, a shuttle service that picks passengers up at their homes.
