Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is one of the most user-friendly airports in Texas. Airlines fly to 37 non-stop destinations including Chicago, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Washington Dulles. Southwest is the most visible airline at Austin Int’l, while Delta and JetBlue also offer multiple flights daily.
The airport has lots of extras. The Barbara Jordan Terminal features restaurants serving authentic Texas fare. There are occasional live music concerts held on stages inside the airport. AUS also has a family viewing area located along the side of the east runway complete with parking spots and picnic tables so people can go watch the planes take off.
The “Airport Flyer” service of Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority operates routes from the University of Texas, through downtown Austin and to the airport.
The location of Austin-Bergstrom was chosen by voter referendum in 1987. It took over the then-closed Bergstrom Airforce Base. The Hilton Austin Airport Hotel, actually on the grounds of the airport itself, is the most convenient hotel for airport users.
